For a true Boulder experience, visit the Dark Horse ... and don’t worry -- the prices are friendly. Above the tables, hung from the roof, is every piece of nostalgia you can imagine: half a plastic horse; an old college football; a wheel-barrel; various signs and much more (but don’t look up too long or your neck will start to hurt). Walls are covered with funny sayings, carved messages and an odd assortment of mechanical moving parts.
Once you find yourself a seat, focus on the food: Dark Horse burgers are awesome! Whether you get the plain or the Jalapeno Jack Burger (my favorite), you’ll find the perfect burger within Boulder. The seasoned curly fries are great too -- not soggy but not too crispy. The chef salad, loaded with vegetables, ham, and dressing, can easily serve two.
The Dark Horse, with arcade games and pool tables, is a perfect place to take kids during the day. However after 9pm, as the bar becomes a place for local college kids to hang out, you must be 21 or older to get in.
